Luigi Guidotti was born in 1874 in Figline Valdarno (FI) to a family of small farmers. With a capital of 10,000 Lire, Luigi Guidotti founded the company 'Laboratorio Iodarsenico Giuseppe Guidotti & C.' in Pisa in 1914.
The company changed its name to 'Laboratorio Guidotti & C.' and kept it until 1981, the year in which it changed its name to 'Laboratori Guidotti S.p.A.'.
Luigi Guidotti is awarded the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro. Between the two wars, Guidotti is transformed from a small workshop, almost a craftsman, into a modern company, attentive to every change and innovation and with increasingly advanced technology, specialising in the production of certain essential amino acids, such as L-tryptophan and L-histidine.
On 11 May, Luigi Guidotti died at his villa in Castelvari in San Casciano Val di Pesa (FI). He is succeeded in the administration of the company by his son-in-law Dr. Harry Bracci Torsi.
Dr. Harry Bracci Torsi is one of the first Italian entrepreneurs to activate scientific research in his laboratories. Research is a sector that knows no bounds and chalks up one success after another: Etafenone, Sorbinicate, Cycloxylic Acid and Rociverine are the active ingredients that also conquer foreign markets and some of them are still exported to numerous countries today, both as raw materials and as finished products.
Official recognition of the Research Laboratories by the Ministry of Health and the Istituto Superiore di Sanità. Inauguration of the La Vettola Research Laboratory on the outskirts of Pisa, where a Research Operating Unit and a Chemical Production Unit are organised.
A successful line of drugs for diabetes is developed thanks to the winning combination of original research and chemical development.
Construction of the La Vettola plant for the production of synthetic products, L-histidine and L-tryptophan amino acids and all raw materials begins. Laboratori Guidotti becomes a leader in the field of oral antidiabetics, while the various processing stages reach high levels of quality and safety: work is carried out behind glass windows, lab coats replace aprons and machines churn out pills, syrups and tablets at a steady pace.
The Pisa-based company becomes part of the Menarini Group. Laboratori Guidotti's product list is renewed and the market successes continue to grow.
Laboratori Guidotti S.p.A. changes location, moving all its offices and production departments to the existing pole at La Vettola. The new premises are created by making the most of all the new technologies, with a special focus on the construction of the premises for the training of scientific representatives, which represents one of the most important and demanding moments for the company.
This year marked the centenary of the company's foundation.
